E-learning Comic Strip

- Why did you choose the different pictures or background(s)?

I chose the backgrounds for the first 5 panels to make Singapore seem dirty and poor, to fit my protagonists view on Singapore, then I used a "clean and green city" background for my final panel so that it would contrast and show how the man's view on Singapore has changed.

- How do they contribute to the elements (plot, setting, characterisation) of your narrative?

The background is an expression of the way the man is viewing Singapore, which changes from a "second-rate country" to a country that is "not so bad after all".

- How did you make use of the different elements to contribute to the theme you have chosen?

They compare the man's original stereotype to reality. As this was set in the recent past, it shows that yes, Singapore was dirty and had poor people. However, the acts of graciousness was a direct contrast to the man's views that Singapore was a city for criminals, and that Singapore's identity was one of a gracious and cultured society.
